A TEENAGE boy has won praise from firefighters after alerting them to a blaze.

The 14-year-old was at home on Lawson Close, Woolston, last Thursday at 6.50pm, when he realised there was a fire in a bedroom.

He shouted to make sure no one was in the house, closed the bedroom door, went outside and called the fire service.

A fire spokesman said: "He acted very sensibly and deserves to be praised for his quick-thinking and calm manner."

The fire was started by clothes lying over sockets and firefighters are reminding people to ensure electrical sockets are kept clear.
