Bold Street will be closed from from its juction with Sankey Street for 40 metres heading towards Wilson Patten Street.
The work is expected to last five days, and the closure should only affect cars using the road between 8pm and 6am.
A change in the road layout near New Town House will mean only buses can drive along Golborne Street.
