A MIDDLEWICH resident says more should be done to ensure that travellers are integrated into the community.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, contacted the Guardian following last week's report about two encampments that have set up in the town in Pochin Way and ERF Way.

She said: "It seems in the present climate they do not appear to be able to do anything right. They were criticised for setting up camps on others' land, so the present travellers in Middlewich have purchased their own properties.

"From what I have witnessed they look after their property and keep it in good condition."

The woman believes that travellers are being 'hounded' and suggested that the residents association CW10residents should work alongside the travelling community to try to address issues from both sides.

She said: "I have witnessed some things that are offensive, like dropping litter, inconsiderate parking and driving, so from my point of view, why don't the CW10residents concentrate on supporting the clean team with the litter and look at the problems with vehicles that can potentially cause harm?"

She added: "We all need to live in Middlewich and I think that if the travellers are here to stay then we need to do what we can to ensure that we are all part of the same community and should try to work together as a community perhaps.

"The association could invite a traveller to be a member and participate actively in CW10 issues."
