AFTER months of waiting the public will finally get to see the result of an ambitious heritage project at the grand unveiling of Middlewich's version of the great Roman amphitheatres.
The newly restored Bull Ring, which will be an eyecatching gateway to the town, will be officially opened on Friday afternoon by Middlewich Town Mayor Clr Jim Basford.
Louise Wallace, senior conservation officer at Congleton Borough Council, said: "The borough council has invested more than £236,000 into the project and the aim was to create a space which will bring the community together. We are sure that residents will use it for events including music, markets and youth projects and we are hoping the project will piece together the past to promote the future."
At 2pm, members of the public will be welcomed to the grand unveiling by the mayor, followed by a performance from St Mary's Catholic Primary School at 2.10pm.
Clr Basford will declare the amphitheatre officially open at 2.20pm before a short prayer for the town's war memorial at 2.30pm, followed by another performance from St Mary's Catholic Primary School at 2.35pm.
Once open, the space will be available for community events and councillors hope it will boost business attracting more visitors. Middlewich Town Council is already organising a number of events to take place at the amphitheatre, including the Norman Middlewich Festival in September.
