CONCERNS have been raised about the safety of pedestrians at a taxi rank at Winsford Cross Shopping Centre.

It is feared that shoppers are at risk due to the lack of bollards around the taxi rank and calls have now been made by a councillor and resident to carry out safety improvements.

Clr Des Worthington said: "There are taxis parked in the rank and there have been a couple of near misses with pedestrians as they pull away.

"Bollards need to be put in place to prevent people from being in the path of the taxis and getting knocked down.

"There is a risk that someone could be seriously hurt but hopefully the situation will be resolved soon."

The problem was brought to the attention of Clr Worthington by resident Ray Whalley and the owners of the car park have now been notified.

Clr Worthington said: "I have spoken to the manager of Asda and he has agreed to contact the owners of the car park.

"It is a serious situation and we need to get some bollards put in place as quickly as possible.

"Ray Whalley brought this to my attention and the manager of Asda seems to agree that this is a serious situation."
