CONCERNS have been raised that Winsford may miss out on vital improvements to its transport links with the M6.

Cheshire County Council is currently preparing a new Local Transport Plan which will set out its transport strategy up until 2011, but it is feared that Winsford will not be a priority.

Town councillor Tony Hooton said: "I think we should be sending a letter expressing our concerns.

"Links with Winsford and the M6 have once again been dropped further down the list and Alderley Edge goes to the top."

Transport links are seen by many as being an integral part of the development of Winsford by attracting businesses to the area.

It is hoped by many that the Winsford Gateway scheme will encourage businesses to come to Winsford but it is also feared that will not happen unless there are improvements in links with the M6.

Town councillor Peter Gannon has supported Clr Hooton in his calls for better transport links for the town.

He said: "I would like to back Clr Hooton most strongly as for the development of Winsford this is a must improve issue."
