A NORTHWICH nurse has helped to create a product that will help patients treat the painful condition of compacted ear wax.

Angela Crosbie, of Shutley Lane in Little Leigh, has developed the Earol Olive Oil Spray with her colleague at Warrington General Hospital, Debbie Hill.

The spray will make it easy for patients to administer the olive oil and in many cases avoid the need for syringing.

Angela said: "It can be very difficult and messy to get the olive oil into the ear so this product will help many people.

"Even children can use this spray so we are hoping it will be a success."

Angela and Debbie developed the spray with their husbands and after discussions with the Primary Care Trust ear centre in Rotherham decided to go into business.

Earol Olive Oil Spray will be on the shelves next month but Angela is hopeful it will be beneficial for both herself and thousands of patients.

She said: "Everybody wants to make money so if the product is a success it will be great.

"But I'm also a nurse and I want to help patients and treat them and hopefully this will help the NHS as well and save them some money."

The Earol Olive Oil Spray is a simple concept. Olive oil is placed into a small glass bottle which has a metering pump spray valve to dispense the mist spray into the ear.

It has already been tested by a number of patients and Angela has been pleased with the response.

She said: "Feedback from a recent patient evaluation study has been extremely positive with all subjects stating that the dosing regime could easily be followed due to the simplistic nature of the product."

Earol Olive Oil Spray is available at Lloyds Pharmacy from May, priced £4.99.
