PRESIDENT Olive Reed welcomed members to a well-attended April meeting of Lach Dennis WI.

The recent annual dinner at The Three Greyhounds had been much enjoyed. A garden party has been arranged for Wednesday, May 25, at the president's home, starting at 2pm.

Valerie Bowyer invited names for a joint coach outing with Lower Peover WI to visit Bakewell and Haddon Hall on June 30.

The speaker was toastmaster Stephen Sanders, resplendent in his colourful uniform.

He was brought up in Bolton and for 13 years was a mayor's attendant in Bury. This brought him to his present career.

His work involves him in officiating at numerous events nationwide, including wedding receptions, product launches and Burns' Nights held in various venues, including hotels and marquees.

He was fortunate enough to officiate at a luncheon held at Bury Town Hall attended by the Queen. He had many humorous stories to tell and his entertaining talk was well received.

Vera Hardman won the competition for a fan, with Sylvia Holmes second and Sylvia Booth third.

The next meeting will be in Lach Dennis Village Hall on Monday, May 9, at 7.30pm, when the resolutions will be discussed and estate-planning consultant Richard Morscord will give a talk.
