WE'RE all supposed to report suspicious activity to the police, aren't we? So you might expect me to be grateful when a car draws up with two officers as I'm returning home after taking photos for the Weaverham Parish Plan.

I really don't mind explaining what I'm doing and showing them my driving licence.

We even talked about the past - but that's another story for another decade, unless someone wishes otherwise.

The Parish Plan will mention bits of Weaverham, like the roundabout that was done up, or Lakehouse Field, which is now a green.

Photographs aren't a substitute for good ideas but a few might lighten the appearance of pages of statistics and suggestions.

One thing that troubles me most as I sit on this steering group is that I don't feel quality of life is determined by speed limits or greens.

It has far more to do with suspicion and fear.

This village is not an island, untouched by ideas from outside. The mechanisms we have for dealing with suspicions and fears have potential for abuse.

The law is supposed to deal with offences, not people we've taken a dislike to.
