KNUTSFORD FC'S penultimate game at St Helens ended - rather predictably given the two sides' form and league position - in a draw.

It was an open and entertaining game however and Knutsford coped well with several absentees and the enforced team changes that saw their personnel reshuffled.

Jamie Wilkinson slotted into a sweeper role and was particularly impressive.

Danny Bailey impressed again in midfield with a hard working and skilful display.

The weather was warm and the pace of the game fast as the Reds worked hard and matched the St Helens side in endeavour and skill. The hosts took the lead on 23 minutes when a forward ball from Dixon had Knutsford skipper Richard Cocksedge in trouble.

Cocksedge, usually so assured, stumbled and lost possession to Andy Smith who scored.

Within 10 minutes, Knutsford were level.

Danny Bailey, who has been superb in recent weeks, feinted to the right before drilling home past keeper Paul Forester for his first Knutsford goal.

It was just reward for another hard working display from the midfielder.

TEAM: Johnson, Starczeski, Cocksedge, Wilkinson, Sproats, Wright, Taylor, Bailey, Fry, Rix, Dow. SUBS: Brodigan, Ivatt.
