MAY I refer to Margaret Easton's letter in the World, April 20, 'Is The Brindley theatre being upstaged?'

I agree with her that the old buildings are an eyesore, but they are privately owned and not, therefore, the council's responsibility unless they become dangerous, so she should direct her criticism to the private owners.

Margaret must have missed the World's previous article about the council's efforts in promoting a developer competition for the area that she refers to around The Brindley called the Canal Quarter.

We have received a number of expressions of interest and are examining the ideas put forward.

I hope we will soon be able to expand and build on the good work already carried out in Runcorn complementing The Brindley itself.
