The problems with Warrington roads are all created by the borough council, despite the new chief executive promising an improvement in congestion.

I can quote many areas in which the council has altered the road layout and in doing so reduced the traffic flow. For example School Brow and Fennel Street at the Cockhedge island. Once there were three lanes and now only two, Liverpool Road, Great Sankey two lanes down to one, Knutsford Road, Latchford, going south we now have virtually only one lane and, of course, the daddy of them all, Winwick Road.

Then of course, we have the ridiculous situation where the council re-marks traffic islands and reduces the amount of usable road (Farrell Street/Kingsway junction). The latest is the pedestrian island on Kerfoot Street.

The trouble is that council employees seem to think that a new technical exercise is a solution to all problems. The council does not seem to be aware of the number of shoppers that they drive away from Warrington. So many residents now go places such as Widnes, Northwich and the Trafford Centre.

I could go on and on but I will just rest my case. We must not forget in all this that the council does not reply to letters on the subject.
