PLANS for the Sandbach Crosses to feature at this year's Royal Horticultural Show in Tatton have been abandoned due to lack of funding.
Congleton Borough Council had been planning on entering the show for the second time this year, and had already submitted a garden design based on the town's crosses to the organisers.
But council chiefs have now decided that they could not justify the expenditure, and will instead focus on delivering core services.
Gareth Edwards, streetscape section manager, said: "The strong focus on delivering core services this year has led to close scrutiny of all expenditure.
"Even though there was a strong desire to enter the show, it was felt that there would be insufficient funds available to produce a high quality entry."
