NANTWICH Town head coach Steve Davis is calling on his players to finish the season on a high with a derby win.

Matt Blake's brace at Abbey Hey secured The Dabbers their first win in eight games.

And after stopping the rot, Davis wants another three points out of what could be a highly-charged derby at Congleton, who may need a win to stay up.

"We deserved it," he explained.

"I thought 2-1 flattered them a bit but nevertheless it's three points.

"If we can finish on a high it'll be a good end to a poor last quarter of the season for us.

"At least it will be something to take into next season."

Injuries have ravaged his side's progress over the last couple of months.

Added Davis: "We've been that short. We've had to get youth team players on the bench, which although gives them an opportunity, hasn't been ideal when we've needed to keep winning games.

"We've had around 10 out and it's been the mainstays missing.

"Some of those that have come in haven't grabbed the opportunity either and that's not good if they want to be here next season."

Blake's double at Abbey takes him to 14 goals for the season and joint top-scorer. He's had some impact.

"He hit another two on Saturday and could have had another couple," said Davis.

"He's been very good for us this season and if we can get another striker that is an equal threat, I think will be a decent force.

"Although I want us to build from the back.

"We've leaked too many goals this season and we need to start with the defence first."
