PUPILS at Newton Primary School will never forget a much-loved governor, as a new classroom was opened in his name on Friday.

The room, a lasting tribute to David Knight who died suddenly last year, was unveiled by his grieving widow, Sue, and children, Barry and Julie, before an audience of youngsters and teachers.

It will contain facilities for disabled pupils and a changing area, serving as a continual reminder of the tireless work Mr Knight did as a governor and previously as a pupil at the Sanderling Road school.

Gary Senior, head teacher at the school, said: "The Knight family have been connected with the school since its opening in 1941 and Mr Knight was personally involved for 50 years as a pupil, parent and then governor.

"He is already sadly missed but his connection lives on with the resources provided in his name."

Meanwhile, £2,000 worth of books were also donated by his family, from Ashton Road, following generous community donations.
