FISHING at distance on long pole and caster earned Jimmy Baines victory in Newton Anglers' Association's Sunday Spring Series Open.

Baines weighed in 3lbs 12ozs 0drms of silver fish from peg 36 on the upper pound section of the Sankey Canal.

Second place went to Mark Van Den Hock on peg 48. His all ide haul of 3-8-4 was landed on long pole and caster.

Ray Shorrocks claimed third spot from peg 42 with a tench and silver fish catch of 3-7-0 on long pole.

Disabled and Over sixties members weekly sweepstake, 21-4-05.

Twenty-two members fished the Disabled and Over 60s Sweepstake on the upper pound but the weights achieved do not reflect the way the section is fishing.

In first place was Geoff Brooks, with a mixed bag on long pole and caster that pulled the scales down to 2-4-0.

Ray Bowden was second with a mixed bag of 1-8-0 on long pole and pinky.
