NEWLY promoted Grange travelled to face Langley in their opening Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance Division Two fixture of the season and came away with a creditable winning draw against a side that were in the top division last season.

On a difficult track Grange made 219 for 8. Opener Ian McCue cracked 64 to form the backbone of the total, and Dave Mason gave the innings a shot in the arm at the end as he scored a quickfire 64 not out.

The hosts looked to be coasting to a tame draw until a fine effort by the Grange attack left them clinging on at 125 for 8.

Ian Turner was the most successful bowler with 4 for 26 while Ian McCue and Liam Fletcher each bagged a brace.

Grange's second XI opened their Division B West campaign with victory over Capenhurst in a one-sided contest.

The Chester side surprisingly elected to bat first on a damp wicket and were soon made to pay for that decision as the Grange attack made full use of the conditions to rout their opponents for just 44 runs.

Carl Peters fronted the assault with 3 for 22, before skipper Carl Evans came on to take 3 for 3.

Grange lost three wickets as they chased the modest target before Phil James and Neil Stinson completed the formalities to secure the 20 points.
