When he was dismissed for 52, Oxton held Neston to 145-9 as time was called, thanks to the steadiness of former Bowdon and Cheshire paceman Andy Birley, 3-31 and Cross, 3-32.

Unable to make his debut in this game was Neston's useful acquisition Brad Donelan, the former Sussex, Somerset and Cambridgeshire all rounder. Donelan was recently appointed cricket coach at Birkenhead School.
