WARRINGTON open their Cheshire County Cricket League home campaign by welcoming the reigning second division champions Cheadle to Walton Lea Road on Saturday at 1pm.

Cheadle and their outstanding Australian bowler Peter Manser will turn up in buoyant mood after their opening day Division One defeat of Cheadle Hulme at the weekend, while Warrington drew at Macclesfield.

Early containment from opening bowlers L Nunn and P Agar halted Macc's early attack, but a cavalier middle order approach led to the home side amassing 182 for 6.

Warrington made heavy work of their innings, finding themselves at 40 for 4 at one stage, but a fighting comeback saw them reach 127 for 8 and earn a credible draw.

B Bray was not out on 52 runs, while P Agar collected four wickets.

Warrington's third XI fell 34 runs short as they were bowled out with two overs remaining against Birkenhead Park.

Their batting got off to a bad start as they lost their first two wickets without putting on a run, and from then on it was an uphill struggle.

Warrington had a young bowling attack propped up by John Brown, who took six wickets for 36 runs en route to Park being bowled out for 155.

Warrington's second XI drew against Brooklands after setting up a winning position with the bat.

A lack of overs and variation in bowling prevented them claiming an opening day win.

Warrington were initially struggling at 21 for 4 but a partnership of 75 off 12 overs by youngsters R Duncan and B Morris set up a 170 for 7 platform to defend.

In the field, the introduction of N Chapman, who took four wickets for seven runs from 11 overs, killed the contest but Brooklands stayed in touch at 140 for 9.
