HEATHER Timmins was Warrington Athletics Club's only winner in the first match of the National Junior Athletics League on Sunday.

She recorded a personal best on her way to victory in the under 17s 3000m at Stanney Oak Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port, and also joined up with Lucy Gemmell, Kelly Money and Heather Roberts to break the club record as they finished fourth in the under 17s 4x400m relay.

Louise Woodward also produced a strong performance in the women's under 17s match, finishing second in the 100m, long jump and triple jump, while registering a new personal best in the long jump and breaking the club's senior record in the triple jump.

Alison Patrick surpassed her own personal best as she finished second in the 1500m B race, as did Sophie Stephens on her way to third the 800m B race.

Sarah Vandewalle finished second in the 3000m B race, while there were third places for Kelly Money in the 1500m and Vicky Nicholson in the 100m B race.

In the men's match, Daniel Eckford finished second in the long jump, third in the 100m and recorded a new personal best on his way to fourth in the 200m.

Mike Timmins also grabbed a personal best in the 400m, while Jason McGonigle improved his career best time by 16 seconds in the 3000m.

Warrington finished sixth overall in the women's match and eighth in the men's match.

Dominic Mahon was the pick of the Warrington runners in the Whitley 10km road race on Sunday, as he finished fifth ahead of Paul Dodsworth in sixth and Adrian Timmins in eighth.

Warrington athletes dominated the 4.7km fun run at the same event, with Lawrence Walker, Danny Cliffe, Matt O'Neill, Matt Jackson, Mike Stewart and Danny Jackson taking the top six places, while James Jackson finished 13th and Jenny Beeton finished 10th in addition to being the second girl to finish.
