Ossett Albion 1

Warrington Town 1

WARRINGTON Town need a point from their last game of the season to ensure they will be playing UniBond First Division football next year after they failed to win at Ossett Albion on Saturday.

Mid-table outfit Shepshed Dynamo will be their opponents in Saturday's final match of the campaign at Cantilever Park, kick-off 3pm, with fellow relegation strugglers Clitheroe hosting bottom side Rocester, while Rossendale visit Stocksbridge Park Steels needing to make up a deficit of three points and four goals.

But Town, who fielded the same starting line-up for the second successive game, created sufficient clear-cut chances to have banished any fears of demotion against Ossett.

The first fell to Simon Burton on the half hour, but his volley was turned behind by home goalkeeper Mike Clark after Warrington stopper Colin Flood's long clearance had bounced into his path on the edge of the box.

However, fellow forward Phil Mitchell did find the net after 55 minutes when he raced into space on the edge of the box before lifting the ball over the advancing Clark.

Mitchell later saw his angled drive speed inches wide of a post before Ossett equalised after 78 minutes.

The home side had seen 41-goal Danny Toronczak - the league's top marksman - twice screw shots wide with only Flood to beat in the first half, but a bullet-like 30-yard shot from Mike Senior gave the Town keeper no chance whatsoever to put Ossett back on level terms.

Clark then denied Town victory in the closing minutes by turning over a powerful header from Steve Latham moments after the midfielder had nodded the ball against a post.

Graeme Mitchell missed the game as he completed his two-match ban but should come back into the reckoning against Shepshed.
