JAMIE Oliver isn't the only school meals hero - just ask pupils and staff at Cinnamon Brow Primary school who voted their catering supervisor Lesley Deans top of the class in the kitchen.

Head teacher Lesley Sweeney nominated Lesley for a special achievement award at Warrington's school meals excellence evening. The award was for her 'significant impact on teamwork and staff well-being'.

Mrs Sweeney wrote: "She cooks high quality meals which are enjoyed by both the children and the staff but she also gets involved in school events and makes suggestions for improvement.

"A few examples include: noticing that it was always the same children on last sitting with fewer choices and suggesting that we have a rota system, making sandwiches, cakes and biscuits for staff who have to stay late for parents' evenings, being very hospitable to our Ofsted team and cooking extra trays of chips to keep them happy, getting involved in our European day by offering European dishes and decorating the food counter as well as taking the time to cook home-made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. The list could go on and on."

l Brook Acre Primary School's catering team were awarded the Excellence in Kitchen Hygiene in Primary Schools Award at the ceremony. Head teacher Karen Morris said: "Rose Turner, our catering supervisor and her team keep the kitchen immaculate and this award is a true credit to their hard work and dedication. It emphasises the impeccable hygiene standards which all of them work to."
