WARRINGTON firefighters are urging motorists to take care on the roads following a big rise in incidents during the last two months.
Fire crews were called to 15 per cent more collisions on roads in the town during March and April compared to the figures for this time last year.
Station officer John Noden, the community safety officer for Warrington, said two out of three serious of fatal crashes happen on roads with a speed limit of less than 40mph.
He added: "People often feel protected in a vehicle and feel that going a bit faster will not make much difference.
"The law of physics dictate that the higher the speed at impact, the more energy must be rapidly absorbed by hard metal, soft flesh and brittle bone.
"An example of this is the difference between a 30 and 40 miles per hour accident is an increase in the force on the driver of more than 50 per cent."
