THERE is fresh optimism surrounding all at Northwich Victoria following two weeks of solid progress at the Victoria Stadium.

Fans have packed the new ground in their droves on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, completing necessary minor work and paving the way for contractors to enter the site and carry out the bigger, more skilled jobs.

And when the professionals arrived on site early last week, hopes that the ground would be finished in time for the Conference deadline of May 31 rose dramatically.

And now, with work continuing, the club are confident all necessary work will be completed on time.

A spokesman for Vics said: "Next week 500 seats are arriving for the main stand, crash barriers will be erected and the area behind the goal will be tarmacced.

"The drain on site that has given us so many problems should also be sorted and there is a real air of confidence and fresh optimism around the place."

He added: "On Saturday lads from the Cheshire's were on site and they helped remove the seats we had put in as a temporary measure in the Danebank.

"We're getting as many as 30 supporters down here helping out and the past two weeks have made a real difference.

"Ever since the meeting with the league last week there has been a real feeling of 'we can do this' and everyone is upbeat."
