CHILDREN and staff from Leftwich Community Primary School gathered to bid a fond farewell to a teacher retiring after more than 30 years at the school.

Bernard Hughes attended a special assembly led by headteacher Sue Watts to mark his retirement after teaching for 38 years and teaching at the school for 34 years.

Mrs Watts said: "He has been a class teacher of about 1,000 children and had an influence on the experience of every child that passed through the school."

She said that he was committed to sports and drama at the school as well as teaching.

Mrs Watts added: "He will be remembered for all of these things as well as his strong personality, his loud voice and the humour of his lessons."
