A NEW £200,000 facility at a Northwich school aims to provide a sporting chance for its pupils and the wider community.

The County High School Leftwich now has a multi-use games area (MUGA) for the community to use.

The development, made up of an Astroturf multi-games area designed for football and hockey, was completed in March and is now ready for use.

Sports groups, clubs and teams are all welcome to use the MUGA for games and practice sessions and during school holidays it will be used for organised tournaments, sport camps and a variety of other sports and activities.

Stacey Manion, community sports development officer at the school, said: "It's very exciting and I've got a very interesting role.

"Once it's up and running the MUGA will give target groups, like girls' football, people with disabilities or people with low incomes the opportunity to participate in sports."

During the next few months Stacey is planning to hold taster sessions in different activities and then set up new clubs.

Pupils at the school are able to use the facility between 3pm and 6pm Monday to Friday and it is open to the wider community after this until 9pm.

It can be viewed after school hours between 3.30pm and 7pm and booked by contacting the school finance office on 01606 333314 or 333309
