A CHESHIRE Army Cadet from Winsford has been awarded the annual position of Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Cheshire.

Cadet Sergeant Major Andrew Webster, of Rosewood Drive, was awarded a special badge and certificate of appointment from Colonel William Bromley-Davenport, the Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire and Honorary Colonel of the Cheshire Army Cadet Force, at a ceremony at Fox Barracks, Chester on Thursday.

Colonel Gerry Wells-Cole, chief executive of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for the North West of England, was delighted for the Dean Street detachment member.

He said: "Andrew has shown determination and a disciplined approach to his cadet activities and has worked consistently at improving his personal skills.

"He has a wide range of interests that include the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, shooting, signalling and first aid. He displays a great enthusiasm for things military."

Andrew, whose siblings Thomas and Charlotte also have military connections and are enrolled in the Sandbach cadets as lance corporals, was joined at the ceremony by his parents, who are both Cheshire Army adult instructors.

Andrew, who will start a music course at Mid-Cheshire College in September, will assist the Lord Lieutenant with service related functions.
