CRANFORD Quilters had the pleasure of Margaret Baulderey as their speaker at their last meeting. Margaret had brought an interesting collection of old quilts that she had gathered over the years.

She joined the Quilters Guild during its early years, beginning with a group that met at Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat in Camden Town, London.

Later she formed a group called Pear Tree Quilters and now lives in Nantwich where she chairs the Piecemakers group. Each year Margaret sets a challenge for members, such as making a waistcoat or even a wash bag.

Among her collection she showed two Welsh quilts, her grandmother's quilts, one bought at an auction for just £20, a tweed one from Cumbria, a 1930s comfort quilt, a Canadian Red Cross quilt from Manitoba, an American butterfly quilt, a 1900 stripey quilt made from men's shirting, another stripey quilt and much more.

Maggie Davies, from Gloucester, was tutor for the day recently. She led a workshop on invisible needle turn appliqu for a Hawaiian design.
