A businessman's wife was yesterday (Tuesday) still waiting for her postal voting form - just two days before the General Election.

Cindy Fryer said she had not received her pack from Macclesfield Borough Council despite requesting one.

"She has never missed a vote in her life," said Gareth Fryer, who was sent a second form after posting his first one. Yesterday Macclesfield Borough Council released a statement confirming there had been problems with 369 ballot papers in the Tatton constituency.

Acting returning officer Vivienne Horton said her team had worked throughout the Bank Holiday weekend to sort the problem.

The voting forms were printed again and they were due to arrive today (Wednesday). "Some of these will be hand delivered and the rest will be given to Royal Mail," she said. "Royal Mail has assured me that papers received today will be delivered tomorrow.

"In each of the duplicate packs there will be an advice sheet reminding voters that they must only vote once and telling them how to return their votes." But voters were warned they had to fill in and post their forms by the end of today (Wednesday) or hand it in at a polling station tomorrow (Thursday) between 7am and 10pm.

It is not known how many people in the Knutsford area have been affected but Mr Fryer, who owns Fryer's Garden Centre in Manchester Road, said he would rather visit a polling station.

"I don't want a postal vote next time," he said.
