COOL-HEADED coach Frank Endacott says all his side need to get the victory they deserve is belief and a bit of luck.

Widnes were left rock bottom of Super League after Leigh overwhelmed Wakefield to go one point ahead but the Vikings coach is refusing to press the panic button just yet.

"There are still plenty of opportunities to get out of this and there is still plenty of belief," the former New Zealand coach said. "If we carry on playing the way we are, we might just get that bit of luck we need.

"It's due to change, just like the weather!"

Widnes came agonisingly close to inflicting a record fourth straight defeat on Wigan on Friday before going down 23-22 after Denis Moran's late drop goal.

Leigh's comprehensive 40-18 victory over the Wildcats, Widnes' next Super League opponents, has left the Vikings rooted to the bottom but Endacott is remaining positive about their survival chances.

"I was ecstatic for Leigh because it drags others like Wakefield down there too," he said. "It makes it that bit more interesting now."

"It was desperately disappointing after the Wigan match but we've put that behind us now," Endacott added.

"But we've got our heads up now and we're looking forward to the cup tie at the weekend.

"We won't be going out with a weakened side, we're going there to win and get a result.

"We'll be showing them some respect by taking our strongest squad available."

Endacott will have to replace winger Richie Barnett and centre Gray Viane for Sunday's challenge cup clash at Barrow because both loan signings are cup tied.

Mick Cassidy will be rested for one week in time ahead of next Saturday's trip to Wakefield.

Admission prices for Barrow have been announced: Adults £9, concession £6, U16s £3.

Widnes U12s and U13s will face Wigan and Leigh at Widnes Rec on Saturday at 10.30am in the Halton Service Area competition.
