A COMFORTABLE win away at Neston on Saturday, saw Widnes go joint top of the ECB Cheshire County premier league.

Widnes's bold decision to bat first on a damp track proved to be of sound judgement as Widnes totalled 207 in 55 overs.

James McCoy top scoring with 57 was ably assisted by the assured 16-year-old Sean Moore (32) prompted up the batting order after his full season of first team cricket and the cavalier batting of Pakistani Shahid Mahboob (35) and Indian Bappa Mukherjee (22).

In return Neston got off to a flying start with Lancashire all rounder Andrew Crook and Chris Hackett scoring 50 runs off the first 10 overs.

Steven Titchard quickly replaced Gareth Dyson and took three wickets in two overs. Eventually finishing with figures of three for 20 off six overs.

Captain Spencer swiftly introduced the spin twins Andrew Kirby and Bappa Mukherjee who proceeded to up root the Neston batting line up.

The second team struggled at home to last year's champions Neston.

Neston opened up with 208 for four in 50 overs. Widnes replied with 169 for nine.

Widnes first team have a full weekend with Nantwich the visitors to Beaconsfield Road on Saturday at 1pm and Heaton visit on Sunday for the second round of the National knockout stumps also at 1pm.
