THE War Memorial Club hosted two further finals last Thursday night but prior to these taking place a minutes silence was held in memory of Tom Grogan who had passed away the previous Monday.

Tom had been a great stalwart of the league having previously served on the league's executive committee for more than 20 years.

During that period Tom who was a life member of the league had held several important positions on the committee including league secretary, treasurer and vice chairman.

Along with current chairman Alan Brown he was also largely responsible for the introduction of the ladies league.

Tom will be greatly missed by all his many friends throughout the league and the league would like to express its deepest sympathy to his wife Rita, daughter Carole and the rest of Tom's family.

The first final to take place proved to be something of a one-sided affair.

This featured Halfway A against Albion in the section one Committee Challenge cup.

The first three singles games all went in

favour of Albion with wins from Paul Melia, Nigel Peterson (16 darts) and Phil Littler (19 darts).

The first of the three doubles games resulted in Albion going into a 4/0 lead with a win from Paul Melia and Phil Littler with Paul hitting a maximum.

Albion also took the remaining two doubles games through Nigel Peterson and Roy Chiocchi and then Neil Dunbebin and Ron Fisher.

For good measure Albion's Jim Reed then won the first of the remaining singles games in 18 darts, which included a 142 finish.

The remaining two games also went in Albion's favour with wins from Eamonn Hartigan and John Kilkenny resulting in a 9/0 win for Albion.

Next came the final of the Best Sports cup and this proved to be a much better contested competition.

The format for this is alternate games of 301 up doubles start and finish and round the board.

Peter Gallagher gave Tricorn an early lead in 17 darts with teammates Gary Roberts making it 2/0.

Navvy's Graham Littlemore then reduced his team deficit to 2/1 only to see Brian McNamara make it 3/1.

Wins from Kev Coles in 17 darts and Peter Murphy (Navvy) then saw the scores locked at three games all.

Tricorn then regained the lead through Ian King but a brilliant round the board game of 11 darts from Ian Darlington (Navvy) squared the match to four games all.

It then fell to Tricorn's anchorman Steve Roberts who took the final game in 13 darts to see his side through to victory.

The trophies and prize monies were once again presented by Mr Alan Lally, one of the leagues main sponsors.

This Thursday night the semi final of both the Town Championship and Executive competition will be staged.

Next Thursday, May 12 the semi final and final of the Doubles competition will take place at the War Memorial Club.

and Dave Gittens & Kev Houghton (Weston Point SC).

These four pairs are reminded to be present for an 8pm start.

Along with the Doubles competition there will be the final of the Executive competition.

This will once again take place at the War Memorial Club and the evening will commence at 8pm with a play-off in the Highest Score competition between Paul Kinsey (Lion Doo Waps) and Mike O'Dwyer (Royal Oak) with each player having scored three maximums in league matches.
