WELL, we couldn't have asked for a better start to the season.
To beat Harlequins 58-0 was a great effort.
The build-up during the week wasn't actually the best - we would be doing simple ball work and team runs and we looked ordinary, we couldn't catch a ball at times.
Friday came and it just clicked! We looked great and the communication was awesome.
Before the game in the changing rooms was very tense, not many people were speaking because they were making sure they were focused on the job they had to do.
When someone did briefly say something everybody took notice and then went back to there own preparation.
The warm up was the same, you could sense the nerves around the team.
I personally couldn't stop thinking about what I was going to do once I got on the field, I wasn't with the warm up.
Once we got to 5 minutes before kick off everyone was barking orders and saying what we needed to do and then that was it, we all switched and wished every player all the best along with a solid hand shake.
The performance was great from a team point of view because everybody did what they needed to do.
We stuck to the game plan and didn't try to force passes.
I am going to be biased here and say the forwards won that game but we did, we were running through brick walls trying to make yards and to get offloads - it was a great effort by all.
Adrian Morley had 1 hour’s sleep and led from the front. His wife had a baby girl in the early hours of Sunday morning, what a day it must have been for him.
He just needed a try to top it off but we all know if Moz gets near the line he's going to fall over is boot laces 2 inches away.
It’s a running joke we have in video sessions that if we don't want to score tries near the opposition’s line give it to Moz, it’s all a bit of fun.
To Nil a team in the competition is a massive plus for us because over the last few years we have been soft in defence.
This year we have talked a lot about being solid and ruthless in defence and I thought we showed that on Sunday, although we must improve over the season because there will be a lot of quality attacking plays to come at us during the rest of the season. Castleford this week will be a good test because they have also got off to a flying start by beating Leeds.
I think again this game will be a proper forwards battle and I hope that we can win the collision just as well as we did against Harlequins but I am sure Castleford will have watched our video and they will certainly want to tighten the ruck area up so we aren't as dominant.
A few people have commented on my offloads against Harlequins and they have asked where have they come from?
It is something I have worked on over the pre-season and I knew I had to adapt my game if I am going to get in the starting 13 again.
A few of the lads have taken it a bit too far by calling me the white Ali Lauitiiti but I prefer to be called David Solomona!
This week in training we saw a major bust up between our new conditioner Chris Baron and Ben Westwood!
They nearly came to blows when Chris Baron, of Wigan St Patricks, got beat by Benny Westwood’s Normanton Knights 6-4 at the 'Graveyard'.
As Benny Westwood says 'Not many a man has come away from Graveyard alive'.
Great win for Norma9nton Knights and it puts them in the next round of the Challenge Cup.
Benny Westwood is hoping they make it through to play Warrington once we enter the hat. May I take this opportunity to thank all the fans that turned out for my Testimonial game, it was very much appreciated and the turn out was great, thank you.
The next nine months are going to be a busy one for myself organising events and my next one will be a Testimonial Launch dinner at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Martin Dawes stand, on Wednesday 3rd March.
The night will consist of a fine Heathcotes 3 course meal, guest speakers Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor who tell some great storys and will have you laughing all night, local comedian Dom Thomas who works along side some big names in the sporting world and a raffle along with prize auction to finish.
Tickets are priced at £35 per ticket and anybody interested in joining the event which I am sure will be packed with lots of laughter and entertainment should contact paulwoodtestimonial@hotmail.com or telephone 07565918942.
My next event will be a ladies night at Richmonds social club on the 20th March and details can be obtained from the same contact details.
