I FIND it completely exasperating that a select group of people are constantly being affronted by TV programmes and then writing in to have them taken off the air.
Why? Surely they are able to switch channels?
Many programmes on TV contain vulgar language, racial comments and sometimes a little nudity.
But that’s often what makes it work – their humour, wit and cleverness give them the chance to win awards.
People who can’t see this should just switch off their TV sets and read a book instead!
Have people got nothing better to do with their lives other than find fault in comic shows and try to force them off the air, angering the public. Why? Just because you find it offensive doesn’t mean others do.
Maybe it’s because you are not getting enough attention, that you are not the most interesting article on the page, you need some recognition, so feel the need to air your views when, to be candid, nobody cares!
I think – and I am sure the public will agree with me – if you are one of these people who examine programmes and find something you don’t particularly like about them and then complain – shut up!
Nobody wants to hear you banging on about how naughty, crude and awful programmes are now.
Today England is the residence of comedy and without it the world would be a very unexciting place. We wouldn’t see the likes of comic geniuses such as Allan Carr and Jo Brand, nor comedy legends Joan Rivers or Jasper Carrot and double acts Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson and Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
Laughter IS the best medicine.
