FROM depending on women’s refuges to being the person to help out others, life has thrown up an unusual course for Jeanette Vincent’e.
But now she is putting her all into a dream job and business she has set up – a ladies only decorating business – after a series of knocks throughout her life.
Jeanette, of Folly Lane, said: “I have lived a life of domestic violence and I left my ex in 1995 and went into my first refuge. I did the rounds of refuges, the best was Warrington. I was there for a few months then I got my house.”
Life appeared to be looking up for Jeanette, who after talking to advisors decided to take up a degree in dental technology.
She added: “I was on the floor and didn’t know what direction to go down.
“I started my degree in 2000 at Manchester Metropolitan University. It took me six years. It was the best six years of my life as a mature student though, it was very hard.”
Yet her happiness would fade again when she lost her job rebuilding faces of patients who had suffered severe facial trauma from car accidents, birth defects and facial tumours.
The prospect of moving to the other side of the country to take up a post was not an option.
“I love Warrington, I wanted to stay here because I have got the best neighbours in the world,” she added.
Years of training had left her £45,000 in debt, without a job and at rock bottom.
Jeanette decided to try her hand at something different and was put in touch with a company called TNG, which helps to mentor people looking for training.
Her advisor Julie Devlin put her in touch with Inbiz after she told them of her business plans.
Her painting and decorating skills had already been put to the test as Jeanette had redecorated some of the women’s refuges she had stayed in.
And now Ladies First Interiors is up and running and offering a service for women and vulnerable people on their own.
Now she is looking for sponsors to help fund transport to get the business really on the go. And her advice to anyone who may have lost their job?
“Never give up! You have got all these people around you, you just have to ask,” she said.
