YOUNGSTERS who signed up to the Participation Through Sport NSPCC football team at the Peace Centre in Westbrook were rewarded with a game against Wigan Athletic’s Under 13s side.
The friendly fixture was held after the charity team based at Cromwell Avenue reached the regional finals of the ‘Game On’ street league competition held at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan in May.
Alex Wright, from the NSPCC, said: “Many of our young lads at the NSPCC don’t play football for regular teams so an emphasis is firmly focused on inclusion.
“The game against Wigan Athletic for many of our lads was the first time they had played 11 a side, so to play against a Premiership centre of excellence team was an exciting opportunity for them.”
The game, which finished 6-2 to Wigan, was sponsored by IKEA.
