WORK to begin clearing the pond at Bennett’s Recreation Ground has been delayed because coots have started nesting in the reeds.
The Environment Agency will begin the work once they have left, expected to be around September.
A consultation on what steps to take forward on Bennett’s Rec is due to begin this summer.
Opposition to the plan has been voiced from many residents on the Sutton Trust estate, who have a petition against it, said Clr Sharon Wilson (LD – Poulton North).
Proposals include making the pond area a nature reserve and bringing in a heritage trail exploring the park’s history as an airfield.
