YOUNG people across Warrington will be helping out in their community thanks to a new initiative being launched at Golden Square this weekend.

Bright Side encourages 16-25-year-olds to take on a volunteer project to mark National Volunteer Week.

And anyone signing up, either at the launch on Saturday or through the rest of June, can get discounts at Debenhams, enjoy a top gig to celebrate their volunteering success and get goodies from the Village Hotel as well as being entered into a free draw.

Supporting the new campaign is Helen Newlove ancd her charity Newlove Warrington.

Her husband Garry was murdered by a pack of youths outside their Fearnhead home almost three years ago.

But she says the Bright Side project is helping youngsters in Warrington achieve something positive.

She added: “I look forward to seeing communities working together and young people making a difference to the lives of other people.”

The project will be aided by the Volunteer Centre Warrington, based at Suez Street.

Alison Cullen, development manager, said: “We have hundreds of volunteer opportunities on offer in the area and several will surprise young people as they are a far cry from what is often thought of volunteering, things like desiging websites or painting murals.”

Bright Side day will take place in Golden Square on Saturday outside Debenhams where new volunteers will receive a goody bag with discounts and gifts.

All volunteering will take place in July and and you can sign up throughout June at the Volunteer Centre.
