A 20 FOOT post box and a giant post card visited Warrington Town Centre as part of a protest against plans to sell off part of Royal Mail.
The event, organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) was part of a national tour which will see the novelty itmes travel from John O’Groats to Lands End.
In particular, the campaign is scheduled to target towns and cities where the sitting MPs have not opposed the sell off.
Under the scheme, part of the company could be sold to a foreign company.
CWU officials say the afternoon’s campaigning was a huge success and that the public were extremely supportive of the Union’s position.
CWU branch secretary Dave Kennedy said: “We are delighted with the response we received in Warrington. It is clear that the vast majority of the public oppose the Government’s proposal.
‘“Unfortunately, we have been unable to secure the support of the two Warrington MPs, Helen Southworth and Helen Jones which would indicate that they are completely out of touch with the electorate.
“People we met today were adamant that they will remember this act of betrayal come the next General Election.”
