DETECTIVES are appealing to a couple who saw a man rob a child by Latchford Locks to come forward to help with their enquiries.
Police say the vitcim was a 14-year-old boy who was walking along the path by the locks with a second 10-year-old boy last Saturday at around 5pm.
The pair were approached by a man who was accompanied by a boy believed to be around 12 years old.
The man then threatened to throw his 14-year-old victim into the Manchester Ship Canal before stealing his mobile phone.
Police are appealing for a couple who witnessed the incident and challenged the robber to contact officers to help with their investigation.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with robbery and will appear at Warrington Crown Court on June 5.
