A PREGNANT woman feared for her unborn twins after slipping on flagstones on an unadopted road.

Jane Kay, of Pewterspear Green Road, went through 48 hours of distress after falling on the wet surface when she was walking her dog Leo.

Despite wearing walking boots, the 39-year-old fell backwards, causing her considerable distress and pain across her bump where she had to stretch to stop her fall.

She said: “Being all too familiar with the paths being dangerous when wet, I tried to take extra care.

“Fortunately I managed to grab the railings and by chance my neighbour was able to catch my arm and stop me from hitting the ground. I dread to think what could have happened if she hadn’t been there.”

Two days after the incident in April, the midwife gave the mum-to-be the all clear and ordered her to rest.

The company director, who is due to give birth in September, is now scared of walking her dog in the rain in case she falls.

She has written letters to Taylor Wimpey, Homes and Communities Agency and Warrington Borough Council asking for the problem to be resolved.

Residents have complained about the deteriorating condition of the flagstones, which now appear to have a form of algae growing on them.

Earlier this year Royal Mail refused to deliver post to houses on the Stretton road because it failed to meet safety standards when an inspector visited the site during icy conditions.

Residents have been battling to get the road adopted by Warrington Borough Council since they learned the paving did not adhere to the local authority’s requirement more than six years ago, when the development was finished.

Sharon Walls, highways assets manager, confirmed that a specialist company would inspect the pavement and offer a permanent solution to the slippery slabs.
