A MAMMOTH task lies ahead for these firefighters, who are all getting ready to cycle the width of America in the name of charity.

The Birchwood Fire Station crew members estimate that their 3,586-mile journey will take them 50 days as they travel from Oregon to New York.

Mark Lingard, Tony Sullivan, Ray Molyneux and Matt Hancock are in the process of writing to all the fire stations they will pass in the hope of being given a bed for the night.

They are planning to leave the UK on May 28, 2010, and finish their ride on July 16.

The money they are raising will go to The Firefighters Charity.
