PLANS to double the number of patients at Lymm’s NHS dentist were due to be discussed as the Warrington Guardian went to press.

A scheme has been submitted to planners at Warrington Borough Council to extend the NHS practice on Rushgreen Road.

It would add a new dentist to work and provide an additional surgery with 2,000 extra patients according to a council report.

Clr Sheila Woodyatt (Con – Lymm) said: “I fully support this application.

“Since the initial planning consent was granted, I am not aware of any complaints or any problems.

“This is the only NHS dental practice in Lymm and an expansion of the service will be of great community benefit.”

There have also been eight letters sent to the council supporting the blueprints, many arguing Lymm needs more NHS dentists - there are currently no others in the village.

But the application has also attracted a lot of criticism.

A petition with 23 names has been handed to councillors as well as a letter of objection.

Residents says they have suffered a lack of privacy since the dentists opened in 2007 and there has been parking problems in the streets surrounding.

They also say there could be an increase in crime and it would see more clinical waste produced.

The application was due to be discussed at a meeting of the council’s planning committee on Wednesday night.
