TWO lanes of the M6 have been closed following an accident.
Lanes one and three of the northbound carriageway near to the Croft junction are shut after the crash involving a number of vehicles this morning.
Highways officials are reporting tailbacks and urging drivers to avoid the area.
The crash involved an HGV and three cars.
The driver of one of the cars was trapped and had to be cut free by firefighters.
He suffered multiple leg fractures and a suspected fractured pelvis.
All the other occupants of the cars and HGV were uninjured, though there was a lot of damage to one of the cars and minor damage to the HGV.
