A FACEBOOK page designed to advise young people who have run away or are contemplating doing so has been launched.
The Relationships Centre’s Talk Don’t Walk project is trialling the page, which provides information to people at the click of a mouse.
Sarah McLaughlin, project support worker, said the idea, which is in its early stages, is an additional information point for people to learn about the support available.
Contact details are displayed for people to get in touch and receive help, which involves young people and families expressing their fears in a safe environment and getting support from professionals to help the situation.
The project, which can be accessed by searching Talk Don’t Walk on facebook.com, works towards tackling the statistic that 100,000 young people runaway annually .
Leaflets, detailing the factors behind people going missing and the possible consequences, are displayed on the page for people to read.
Sarah said: “It’s often daunting to go somewhere new and not know who to approach but if they have another way of tapping into the support it’s another way of getting in touch.”
Staff will monitor the site daily and respond to any messages they receive.
People are encouraged not to give any confidential information over the internet.
Anyone thinking of running away or any parents who are worried about a young person running away should call 246910.
