STALWART fans of the rock band Queen may recall that on May 23 it will be 40 years since frontman Freddie Mercury played his first ever live vocal performance at Honiton Hall in Penketh.

In 1969, Mercury, then going by the name of Freddie Bulsara, joined the band Ibex, a Merseyside-base trio comprising Mike Bersin on guitar and vocals, John ‘Tupp’ Taylor on bass and vocals, and drummer Mike ‘Miffer’ Smith.

Does anyone remember the performance or have any photos of the band from the night?

If so, either e-mail Nicola at the Warrington Guardian on nicola.davies@guardiangrp.co.uk or call 434112.
