A PERMANENT tribute to the servicemen of Thelwall has been unveiled in All Saints Church.

A special ceremony was held to mark the new plaque installed in the churchyard of the Thelwall New Road church.

The new plaque, sited in the memorial garden, replaced a rotting wooden one put up decades ago and will provide a more permanent reminder of people gone.

Ray Parrington, membership secretary of Grappenhall and Thelwall British Legion, helped organise a design for the plaque and liaised with vicar the Rev Douglas Black for the work to be carried out.

He said: “The plaque is being paid for by donations after it was brought to the attention of the club committee that it needed replacing.”

The Mayor and Mayoress Clrs Graham and Elaine Welborn were among those present for the official opening of the memorial and standard bearers Tom Robinson and Brian Jones were joined by veterans Albert Yeomans, Terry Birchall, Kevin Ryder, Denis Delooze and Mr Parrington for the ceremony.

Mr Parrington added: “We would like to thank Pat Weston, of Moore Avenue, for taking care of the memorial garden.”
