TAIL backs are building up on the M6 following a crash between two cars and a tanker which spilled its load.
Nobody was hurt in the crash, but the tanker's load of cooking oil spilled across the motorway.
Two lanes are closed while the Highways Agency cleans the road, causing tail backs for more than one junction.
The crash site is just south of Junction 23 (Haydock) on the northbound carriageway.
Traffic is backed up past Junction 22 (Croft interchange) and is nearing Junction 21A.
The accident happened at 8.50am.
The Highways Agency is advising drivers to delay their journeys or find an alternative route.
