A COMMITTED barmaid has pulled her final pint after being employed by The Feathers pub for more than 20 years.

Mary Andrews served punters for the last time on Sunday – just days after her 66th birthday – following 21 years of hard work at the Bridge Street pub.

Mary said: “I just liked the atmosphere and the company here. When you come in the customers are really friendly and there is never any trouble.

“I think I stayed so long because of the clientele. You can usually feel a bit uncomfortable but not here, it’s very welcoming.”

She said she only started working in pubs on a temporary basis 30 years ago to earn some money but has never looked back.

Mary, of Oxford Street in Birchwood, has worked in a number of pubs in the town including The Blue Bell, The Cheshire Cheese and The White Hart.

“When I first started working behind the bar there were some real characters, they all had their little traits. They would walk in and have their own little quirks,” she added.

She will soon be moving to Stockport to live nearer her two sons and plans to spend her retirement taking her pet terrier for long walks.

Darren Frankland, general manager, said: “She has been one of the most lovely staff members that I have had the pleasure of working with. She will be very missed.”
