THE botched elections from last year have seen Warrington Borough Council come last in a survey of electoral registration officers in the north west.
The Electoral Commission report highlighted the council’s shortcomings in last year’s elections, only meeting the standard expected of it in two out of 10 categories.
Among the problems were the supply and security of the electoral register, encouraging more people to vote and organising staff with training.
The council says that since the elections a number of changes have been made to improve procedures at elections.
Diana Terris, chief executive of the council, said: “While we are disappointed to have under-performed in these latest Electoral Commission assessments, we are committed to improving our electoral processes to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for people to turn out and exercise their democratic right to vote.”
